ABOUT MR. GRID
Mr.Grid is a Connecticut tattoo artist and owner of Nocturn Gallery in Manchester, CT, with more than 20 years of experience in the tattoo industry. His work is rooted in dark art, with a focus on original horror-inspired imagery, black and grey tattooing, and large-scale custom work.
His connection to darker imagery began long before tattooing became a career. Growing up watching horror movies with his father sparked an early fascination with monsters, unsettling imagery, and the darker side of art and storytelling.
Metal music became another major influence. Beyond the music itself, he was drawn to everything surrounding it: album artwork, band imagery, typography, and the visual identity that could be built around a record. Horror and metal became closely tied to the way he looked at art, eventually finding their way into his own drawing, painting, and tattooing.
What began as an interest early in life gradually became part of his identity as an artist and continues to shape the work he creates today.
More Than 20 Years in Tattooing
Over the course of his career, Mr.Grid has worked alongside respected names in the tattoo industry, received awards for his work, and spent more than two decades refining both his technical ability and artistic voice.
Today, he is the owner of Nocturn Gallery in Manchester, Connecticut, a tattoo studio and creative space centered around original artwork and individual artistic expression.
After more than 20 years of tattooing, his work has become increasingly focused on the imagery that has always interested him most: strange figures, monsters, distorted anatomy, dark environments, and forms that exist somewhere between recognizable and abstract.
Rather than moving away from the influences he grew up with, his career has brought him closer to them.
An Original Approach to Dark Art
Mr.Grid approaches each tattoo as an original piece of artwork rather than a reproduction of something that already exists.
His work draws heavily from the atmosphere of horror, dark art, and metal, but rarely in a literal way. Those influences instead become a starting point for creating original creatures, figures, textures, and abstract forms through his own visual language.
Some pieces are immediately recognizable. Others become considerably more abstract.
That freedom is an important part of his work. Rather than being confined to a specific set of subjects, the focus is on creating imagery that carries weight, atmosphere, movement, and a strong identity.
Mr.Grid does not reuse tattoo designs or reproduce the work or style of other artists. Every project is interpreted through his own artwork and created specifically for the person wearing it.
The Process
Every project begins with the artwork itself.
Mr.Grid develops each piece through his own approach to drawing and composition, taking the client's initial idea and interpreting it through the dark and sometimes abstract visual language that defines his work.
Depending on the project, that process may involve a developed design, drawing directly on the body, or a combination of the two. With years of experience working freehand, he is able to adjust and develop compositions around the natural anatomy when a piece calls for it.
The goal isn't simply to place an image onto the skin. It's to create something that works with the body and feels considered for the individual wearing it.
Technique and longevity remain important, but perfection for its own sake isn't the objective. There is intentionally still a human hand behind the work: movement, texture, irregularity, atmosphere, and the marks of the artist who created it.
Built Around Original Art
After more than two decades in the tattoo industry, Mr.Grid's direction has become clearer rather than broader.
The focus is on creating original dark artwork, continuing to develop his own visual language, and taking on projects that allow that work to evolve.
Whether a piece begins with horror, a creature, anatomy, a feeling, a piece of music, or simply an idea that is difficult to put into words, the end result is filtered through the same approach.
